Quick Art Tour; London

Art tour

We went on an accelerated contemporary art tour in London, one of the few cities where the summer heat does not hinder art life. We got to know both the artists and the supporting hotel behind them.

What I love most about London is that there is always “something” in the city. Especially in summer. While tennis fans flock to Wimbledon, foodies rush to the food festival organized by chef Jamie Oliver. The music never stops in Hyde Park. Many names from Arcade Fire to Pulp are on the scene every other day. ’90s boy band Take That united, performing every night. The art world has not fallen into summer complacency, either. Those who are interested in fashion, there are jobs related to the Vorticism movement that emerged during World War II. The 150-year history of animation in Barbican is told in the Watch Me Move exhibition.

We, on the other hand, have to act very quickly and selectively for our one and a half day accelerated art tour. Hence our trip to East London.
We start from the art center named showroom in 2nd. Downstairs is the English artist Emma Smith’s exhibition Playback. On the top floor, Turkish artist Can Altay welcomes us. Altay transformed the Showroom into a newspaper production center a few months ago and together with the residents of Church Street, where the gallery is located, he prepared The Church Street Partners’ Gazzette. (newspaper available for free download at www.showroom.org)

In the evening, we first visit the Field of Action: Moscow Conceptual School in Context exhibition at Calvert 22. (until 28 August). Our dinner is an experimental work by the Austrian art collective AO& titled “Old acquaintance Should be Forgot”. The meal, which consists of 11 different menus prepared by artists, was prepared with ingredients from the close environment. The first presentation was London’s tap water, for example. Based on the idea that art is action, AO&’s performance focuses on the people at the table.

Art at the foot of the bridge

The purpose of this beloved art tour is to get to know Outset, an organization established by art lovers and collectors to support contemporary art, and to see deeply the support given to art by the Le Méridien Hotel, which will be opened in Etiler, Istanbul in November. All the galleries we visited are supported by Outset.

Le Méridien is at the top of all this. In other words, Le Méridien supports Outset. The support given to art by the otle chain, which defines its customer portfolio as “creative segment”, is also evident from the hotel in Piccadilly. From the lobby to the details in the room, from the carpets to the door cards, art is everywhere.
