How should coffee in the morning?

Read Time:2 Minute, 10 Second

Running to brew coffee first thing in the morning isn’t always a good idea.

Starting the day with an intensely flavored cup of coffee to sober up after waking up in the morning can be very appealing to many. However, experts suggest that we wait a bit before sipping that first cup of coffee to allow for the hormonal changes that take place in our bodies in the morning.

Coffee and morning cortisol

Known as the stress hormone, cortisol plays an important role in how we wake up in the morning, although it has a bad reputation. When it is time to wake up, it starts to rise naturally with the hormone adrenaline, energizes us and allows us to focus on the new day.

Consuming coffee while these natural hormonal changes are taking place in our body in the morning, which helps to increase our energy, can be considered as a kind of waste. Experts say that waiting for cortisol levels to drop before consuming caffeine will allow each power source to function individually.

Taking a caffeine boost while our morning hormones are doing their job actually wakes us up, creating a kind of energy jolt, not an energy boost. It’s a better idea to have coffee an hour or two after waking up to start the day with a longer lasting calm energy.

Thanks to cortisol, the alertness and focus we experience reaches its peak 30-45 minutes after waking up. Consuming coffee at this stage can have negative long-term consequences, especially if you have a caffeine sensitivity.

Harness the power of delaying gratification

Stepping out of our routines once in a while is beneficial for our psychological health. For that alone, you might consider putting off coffee for a while.

Likewise, delaying gratification increases the feeling of satisfaction in many cases. The anticipation of delay makes your senses more sensitive to the pleasure that caffeine can provide. And that’s a good reason to delay your morning coffee a bit. Psychotherapist Alison Stone says procrastinating until you’ve enjoyed your morning coffee instead of rushing through it can make a difference. ”

If caffeine makes you shiver, have breakfast

Some people are more sensitive to caffeine and may experience prominent tremors in the hands, especially when they sip coffee on an empty stomach in the morning. Experts recommend consuming coffee with breakfast to get a calm energy. Thus, you ensure that the caffeine is absorbed slowly, not quickly. At the same time, drinking a large glass of water with your coffee will also be effective in reducing the unpleasant effects of caffeine.
